Sketching: Drawing
Techniques for Product Designers.
Koos Eissen and Roselien Steur.
BIS. 2008. 255 pages.

Sketching is a vital skill for designers and one
that's been addressed in a number of books, but often the communication,
pacing or examples let them down. For accessibility and teaching
technique, this book is the best I have come across.
It progresses from fast rendering of side view sketches
into perspective then through greater levels of refinement. Chapters
cover issues such as emitting light, textures and cross-sections
in great depth and use industry examples from the likes of Audi
and SPARK Design.
This variety of sources is another plus as the reader
is exposed to several different styles so the reader won't be
moulded to produce one 'look'.
Another of the many strengths is that photographs
regularly accompany sketch examples, illustrating the key aspect
to be communicated.
