Trajectory

Trajectory was conceived in 2007 to showcase Perth's emerging design talent.

There seemed to be few opportunities for design students to exhibit in Perth before their Graduation Show and as I discovered at VIVID in 2006, it's a great experience.

As well as being able to exhibit their prototypes in public the designers had chance to meet their peers from other institutions and to show how they arrived at the design in the first place. This exhibition highlighted the inspiration and development of the ideas that led to the prototype - good design doesn't just happen.

The show was held at the Kurb Gallery in Northbridge thanks to the kind support of our sponsors. We were particularly fortunate to have the City of Perth as primary sponsor with Michele McDonald providing extraordinary help and guidance.

The other half of 'Team Trajectory' was Steve Wallace, whose enthusiasm, entrepreneurial skills and mastery of the hot-glue-gun made it as much fun as it was a success.

Exhibits were judged by Simon Cheung of Aurora Studio. The most important factor in the assessment was how each Exhibitor had followed the design process.

The Exhibitors:

Benjamin Selkirk (Spoon)

Haruko Watanabe (Miss Grey)

Matt Potter (Minerva)

Holly Pepper (Cusp)

Peter Anjou (Lazy Harry)

Tarrin Buttimer (Tondra)

Vincent Guillemot (Stool)

Yolanda Stapleton (Plain Jane)

Keith Melbourne presented the Trajectory Award to Haruko Watanabe for her Miss Grey bench while Holly Pepper's Cusp Lamp was voted 'People's Choice'.
